QuickBooks provides several types of asset accounts to categorize your income and capital. You can choose from another current asset, other asset or fixed asset account. Additionally, if you want to change your asset account to another type of income account, you can do that as well. Most often, you only need to change an asset account when you accidentally selected the wrong account during the initial setup. When you can't change an asset account, you can open the account by double-clicking it in your Chart of Accounts list and checking the box to make it Inactive.
Click the "Lists" menu and select "Chart of Accounts."
Choose an account from the list by clicking on the account name.
Click the "Account" button, and select "Edit Account."
Select the "Type" drop-down list and choose from the list of account types.
Select "Save & Close" to save the changes to your account.
